Service schedule

Thu 6.00-10.00
Filling of the magnets with liquid nitrogen
Tue or Fri 8.00-11.00
Filling of the magnets with liquid helium (every 6 weeks)

During the filling of the magnets, the NMR spectrometers are out of service.

The NMR centre OC is open for all members of the organic chemistry department (access for other researchers can be arranged as required).

In order to gain access to both spectrometers with sample changers (AVII 400 and AVIII 500 in C 85) an introductory course (ca. 40 min) is required, which have to be arranged here. The introductory course can be arranged for all postdoctoral researchers, PhD students and Master students, as well as research visitors that are staying for several months or longer. However, Bachelor students will only get permitted use of the sample changers in exceptional cases.

For projects requiring extended NMR contribution, a tutorial and access to the spectrometers for manual measurements is possible (AVIII 500 and AVIII 700 in C 69). Please ask your supervisor in such a case.

Measurements & Sample submission

Instructions for the sample changers and preparation of samples can be found here

In order to apply for special measurements on the 500 MHz and 700 MHz in C 69 please use the sample submission form. In the case of complex NMR problems, it is good to contact first the to get an individual consultation. The sample must be put in the beaker in C 85 afterwards, labelled clearly with the SampleID, UserID, Workgroup and solvent. If your sample needs cooling, you can also submit your sample in the beaker in the fridge of room C 69.

Researchers that have permission to measure on the AVIII 500 and AVIII 700 in C 69, have to book time on the machines via the booking system Faces (Group: TUBNMR) when they want to use one of these spectrometers.

Software & Data access

The software Topspin for processing only is currently available for researchers and students in academia and for non-commercial use. Further details about the conditions and the data for the installation can be found here. A registration at Bruker to access the download is necessary. For managed systems you just have to install Topspin via the 'Software Shop' (Client Command Installer). For the printer settings you may have to execute 'expinstall' in Topspin (for further information see the Manual). Alternatively to Topspin Spinworks, a freeware from the University of Manitoba, can be used.

The measured data can be obtained from the AFS (Andrew Filesystem). The spectra are situated in the corresponding folder of each workgroup (usually ...\volume\group\NMR).

The automation of both spectrometers in C 85 can be checked by the webinterfaces of IconNMR (AVII 400 and AVIII 500 in C85; only available within the Institute).
