The research group Applied Physical Chemistry is located in the TC building of the TU Berlin.

For solid interface characterisation we use a variety of methods, such as scanning force microscopy, ellipsometry, QCM and x-ray reflectometry. Liquid interfaces and thin liquid films are investigated using e.g. thin film pressure balance technique, AFM and tensiometric methods.

We operate specialized laboratories providing scanning forces techniques for surface imaging and force measurements in different environments and the characterization of foams and thin liquid films. In cooperation with the research group Physical Chemistry/Molecular Material Science we run a X-ray laboratory equipped with a SAXS camera and a X-ray reflectometer and a light scattering laboratory operating instruments such as goniometer type setups for dynamic light scattering methods and instruments for static light scattering.
