Biochemistry of Gas-Converting Biocatalysts

Welcome to the homepage of the Lenz Research Group

Our group works on the molecular biology, biochemistry, and application of gas-converting metalloenzymes. The focus lies on [NiFe]-hydrogenases that catalyze H2 oxidation as well as O2 reduction.

Structure of [NiFe]-hydrogenase

Lupe

Structure of the O2-tolerant membrane-bound [NiFe]-hydrogenase from the proteobacterium Ralstonia eutropha. The large subunit (blue) contains the catalytic NiFe center, and the small subunit (green) coordinates the electron wire composed of three FeS clusters. Metal cofactors are shown in ball representation.
