Collaborative Research Centers (SFBs)

Collaborative Research Centres are long-term university research centres in which scientists and researchers work together within a cross-disciplinary research program. (Source: Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft - DFG).

SFB 1449 - Dynamic Hydrogels at Biointerfaces

The overarching goal of this CRC is to define the key physicochemical parameters that determine protective hydrogel function at biological interfaces in health and define abnormalities in disease for prospective development of novel therapeutic strategies. Prof. Gradzielski from our institute is involved with two sub-projects (A01 and A02).

SFB 1449

SFB 1109 – Understanding of Metal Oxide/Water Systems at the Molecular Scale: Structural Evolution, Interfaces, and Dissolution.

SFB 1078 - Protonation Dynamics in Protein Function

Life-science research at the interface of biology, chemistry, and physics has facilitated identification of key principles of protein function, e.g., the key-and-lock principle in substrate binding. The research in the CRC 1078 aims at a further principle: Complex protein functions are coordinated and facilitated by evolutionary optimized protonation dynamics.
SFB 1078

SFB 765 – Multivalenz als chemisches Organisations- und Wirkprinzip: Neue Architekturen, Funktionen und Anwendungen

The Institute of Chemistry is involved with one project (Teilprojekt B5).
SFB 765

SFB 658 – Elementary Processes in Molecular Switches on Surfaces

In 15 projects, the SFB 658 aims to investigate basic aspects of switching processes, which are induced by external stimuli at well-defined molecular systems in contact with solid state surfaces. The Institute of Chemistry is involved with 5 projects.   SFB 658
