Academic Career

Prof. Dr. Martin Schoen

Martin Schoen studied Chemistry at Ruhr-Universität Bochum where he graduated in 1983 with a diploma in chemistry. During the years 1983-1986 he worked on his doctoral thesis at Lehrstuhl für Theoretische Chemie (Prof. Dr. W. Kutzelnigg. After receiving his doctoral degree he joined the Richard-B.-Wetherill Laboratory of Chemistry at Purdue University (U.S.A.) where he began his studies of the dynamics and phase behavior of confined fluids as a postdoctoral researcher under the guidance of the chemist Prof. Dr. D. J. Diestler and the mathematician Prof. Dr. J. H. Cushman. After leaving Purdue he worked in Experimental Physics at the private university Witten/Herdecke as a senior postdoctoral researcher. In 1993 he completed his habilitation in Theoretical Physics with Prof. Dr. S. Hess at the Institute for Theoretical Physics at Technische Universität Berlin where he stayed as a Heisenberg fellow of Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft from 1994 to 1997. From 1997 to 2000 he served as Professor of Theoretical Physics at Bergische Universität – Gesamthochschule Wuppertal. In 2000 he joined the chemistry faculty at Technische Universität Berlin as Professor of Theoretical Chemistry. Since 2009 he is also Adjunct Professor of Chemical Engineering at North Carolina State University (U.S.A.).
